How To Play

Everything you need to know about MFL scoring and strategy.

How MFL Scoring Works

MFL scoring is based on key performances throughout the DCI season instead of every single show.

Each corps earns fantasy points from:

  • 1st performance
  • 3rd performance
  • 5th performance
  • 7th performance

ⓘ If a corps' 7th show falls on a Major Regional Event, their 6th performance counts in its place. The regional still scores separately.

Along with Major Regional Events:

  • Southwestern Championship
  • Southeastern / Midwestern Championship
  • Eastern Classic

And Championship Week:

  • DCI Prelims
  • DCI Semifinals
  • DCI Finals

Scoring Breakdown

Every corps in MFL earns fantasy points using official DCI caption scores.

Fantasy scoring pulls from real judging categories, including:

  • General Effect 1
  • General Effect 2
  • Visual Proficiency
  • Visual Analysis
  • Color Guard
  • Brass
  • Music Analysis
  • Percussion

Each caption score is added together to create your corps' fantasy total for that performance.

As the season progresses, your lineup continues building points across every counted event.

At the end of the season, the fantasy team with the highest combined score wins the league.

Finals Week note: During Finals Week, some captions use double judging panels. When two judges score the same caption, the average of those scores is used for MFL scoring.
